Based on the characteristics of the program and the dimensions requested, the starting point was a simple building concept.
Priority has been given to the function and the program, in order to achieve a flexible, homogeneous space, with no conditions of form or divisions, while perfectly fulfilling the program of needs.
He has escaped from great pretensions of form or image, from expensive materials or capricious solutions.
On the contrary, we start from rational criteria of sustainability and maintenance.
We believe that the most appropriate way to design the building is to control the costs, which determine from a simple but flexible structure to the way in which the building sits on the ground, in order to carry out the least possible excavation.
This rigor in the form is translated in a construction of not high cost that allows to introduce less usual technical solutions, such as registrable technical floors, acoustic supports, double glazing with internal louvers of light regulation, etc., suitable for the perfect functioning and comfort of the library.
Volumetrically, the building is made up of a ground floor along Europa Avenue and a raised floor (one floor only) slightly recessed with respect to the façade. This provision responds to several objectives:
– to allow natural light into all areas with a simple and easy to regulate solution;
– to achieve the maximum surface of façade in order to give presence and visibility to the new building, as a point of attraction and reclamation at the entrance of the town;
– adapt to the site without exhausting future expansion possibilities;
– to organize and enhance the environment, while preserving the views of the population and the natural environment;
On the second floor there is a storage room, in order to free up space on the plot and free it from other areas with more traffic.
